Garmin GPS Cycling Computer Edge 820: Black

Recent years have posed something of a conundrum for the discerning data nerd, but Garmin’s new Edge 820 Bike Computer solves the case by refusing to sacrifice with a huge body or limited functionality. The Edge 810 brings it all to the table with myriad mapping, tracking, and virtual training tools but is a bit of a behemoth when strapped to a stem. On the flip side, the Edge 520 sacrifices some features but is a beautifully streamlined package that hits the sweet spot in size–small enough to blend into the cockpit yet large enough for ease of view. The Edge 820 merges the best of both worlds, packing massive functionality and full-touchscreen utility into a perfectly proportioned frame on par with the Edge 520. The Edge 820 encompasses all the things we loved in the Edge 520 and adds a host of features to boost your cycling game. Its full touchscreen is a welcome and user-friendly upgrade from the mixed button/touchscreen system employed on the Edge 520, but the mapping options are what really make this computer shine. It comes with a preloaded Garmin Cycle Map and boasts internal memory for adding additional maps if needed. It lets you plan your routes, provides round-trip routing direction to keep you on course, and offers up audible prompts via Garmin Connect Mobile so you can keep tabs on your metrics and progress without constantly craning your neck to stare at your stem. As with the Edge 520, the Edge 820 displays metrics encompassing everything from charting fitness levels to power output and targeted recovery. It also features Strava Live Segments, which means you now can track segments in real time out on the road. The Edge 820’s direct connection to Strava gives you a leg up in the battle for K/QOM’s with live updates as you ride, simultaneously displaying the stats of your present performance against the current segment holder and your own personal record. The days of getting home and excitedly loading files only to be crushed by the dreaded second…
